Juicy Grilled Turkey & Beef Burgers
So I’ve got weekend on my mind.
How ’boutchu?
We’ve had a lot of exciting events going on in our household this week. With four boys, end of school year around here is crazy busy. Academic award ceremonies, sports award ceremonies, graduations, music recitals. Year end parties. And more.
I wanted to make a special meal my boys would really appreciate to celebrate all their hard work. Something that spoke loud and clear. Said congratulations on a job well done.
In other words, MEAT!
And nothing speaks louder in our house than the word BURGER. We often have pasta, soup or chicken as a main dish, but I know my boys really love a great burger.
We’ve been grilling these delicious Juicy Grilled Turkey & Beef Burgers at cookouts for years around here. Thought you might like this great, flavorful burger recipe for your cookouts this summer.
You’ll need just four simple ingredients: ground turkey, 85% lean ground beef, Lipton Onion Soup Mix and A.1. Steak Sauce. A good hamburger press is essential.
I bought this one from Williams Sonoma on clearance a few years back. (And not a twinge of buyer’s remorse, it has served us well.)
This recipe calls for a mix of half ground turkey and half ground beef. The turkey keeps the burger juicy, cuts down on shrinkage and fat content. Makes a healthier burger. The 85% lean ground beef preserves that meaty big-beef flavor we love.
Form patties, then freeze before grilling. This keeps the burgers juicy and helps them stay together during grilling.
Juicy Grilled Turkey & Beef Burgers
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground turkey
- 1 pound 85% lean ground beef
- 1 envelope Lipton Onion Soup Mix
- 2 tablespoons A.1. Steak Sauce
- 8 hamburger buns
Instructions
- Mix all ingredients together with a fork in a large mixing bowl.
- Form into 8 quarter pound meat patties.
- Freeze until firm, an hour or more.
- Grill just how you like it.
- Place inside a toasted hamburger bun and top with your favorite burger fixings: lettuce, tomato, onion, onion rings, cheese, etc.
Grill these burgers just how you like ’em, then top with your favorite burger fixings. We topped ours with extra sharp white cheddar, lettuce, tomato and onion rings. Hope you enjoy this fantastic burger and happy grilling!
We served ours with a delicious side of Crunchy Asian Salad!

I have to admit, I have hamburger press envy. I always shape mine by hand but I love how perfect the pressed ones come out!
Ali @ Home & Plate says
I love this idea. Turkey burgers can be dry but adding beef would result in something guilt free. I must try this soon.

I make mine very similar. I use Lipton soup mix and worcestershire sauce. But I have never made them with the turkey and ground beef mix. I make meatloaf that way. What a great idea! I also have never tried freezing them first. I will try that too. You are such a good mom feeding those boys with such delicious meals!

I often mix ground turkey sausage with beef, but never thought of mixing ground turkey and ground beef. What a great idea! These burgers look wonderful and I’d love to take a bite!

Honestly, I have shied away from making burgers over the years (apologies to my three boys) because my several attempts turned into flops. So our burger eating was delegated to In and Out or Five Guys. I am super excited to try this recipe. I like the idea of ground turkey for a lower fat content as well as helping keep the burger together (a huge reason why my attempts at burgers received a below average mark). I am going to try freezing for an hour before grilling. And I am definitely on the hunt for a good burger press (never have seen one of these). So, thanks Allie for such good tips and a good recipe for summertime! My boys will be thrilled!!

P.S. Those onion rings look a recipe I’d like to have!! 🙂
Allie says
Yes, I hope you try these burgers Christy. I think all of you will like them. As far as the recipe for the onion rings….that’s an easy one. Walk into the frozen food aisle, pick out a bag of Alexia Onion Rings and bake according to package directions, turning once. Giggle. 🙂 How’s that for EASY? XO

Now that is my kinda recipe! 🙂 Just grabbed my grocery store list and added to it. Thanks Allie!! I will let you know how these turn out for us. I have high hopes! Thank you!

Sounds like a great combo! I mixed different ground meats for pasta sauce but haven’t tried in a burger yet.

Is that onion rings in a hamburger? Genius !
I love your blog and recipes. Are you interested in becoming a Chicory recipe partner?

Yum! I love that you used both meats. I bet that makes for a juicy burger!
Chantelle says
what size onion soup mix packet do you use?
Allie says
Hi Chantelle – I use the Lipton Onion Soup Mix envelopes that come 2 to a box – I believe they are both 1 ounce each or close to 1 ounce. So I use 1 envelope/packet (1 ounce) of Lipton onion mix. Hope that helps and thanks for dropping by.
