These Easy Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies are fantastic. Butter, flour, sugar, oatmeal, chocolate chips. Lots to love. Heavenly, warm and fresh from the oven. These cookies are a yummy after school or weekend treat!
Think melty chocolate. Buttery. Crunchy. Mmmm…these cookies are perfect picnic fare or packed in lunch boxes.
These Easy Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies are simple to make. Get out your wooden spoon and mixing bowl.
Stir together the dry ingredients.
Stir in the wet ingredients.
(I know. Tough.)
Shape dough into balls or use a cookie scoop.
Nothing better than these warm buttery cookies, fresh from the oven. Don’t forget the milk.
It’s the butter and oatmeal that make these so crispy and crunchy. And unlike many butter cookies, these hold their shape well because of the oatmeal.
While I do love regular oatmeal cookies, these Easy Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies don’t taste like a traditional oatmeal cookie. They’re crispy and buttery. Like a good chocolate chip oatmeal cookie ought to be.
You can give this Easy Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies mix as a gift. I feel slightly 90’s here, because that’s when all the mason jar homemade mixes were popular. Everybody and their brother gave (and got) these mason jar mixes at Christmas time.
Basically the dry ingredients of the recipe are in a mason jar with an attached gift card listing the needed wet/refrigerated ingredients and instructions.
I haven’t given or received one these homemade mixes in over a decade. And I don’t know why, because they’re cool. So maybe I miss the 90’s. (Maybe.)
But the dry ingredients in this recipe are perfectly proportioned to layer and fit in a one quart mason jar. Add a tag with the needed wet ingredients and instructions, and you’ve got the perfect little thank you or hostess gift.
The best part? Watching my littlest taste tester hard at work. Hudson says thumbs up and finger-lickin’ melty chocolatey good.
I tried this batch with chocolate chunks instead of chocolate chips. Score!!!
Tips for Making Easy Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies:
- Melt butter in the microwave.
- You’ll only need one mixing bowl.
- Use a parchment lined baking pan for easy clean-up.

- Dry ingredients stack easily in a mason jar for gift giving.
- Layer dry ingredients in a one quart mason jar. Stuff saran wrap at the top to keep ingredients from shifting, then screw on the cover. Attach a gift tag that says: “Add: 1/2 cup melted butter, 1 beaten egg, 1 teaspoon vanilla. Shape into 1 ” balls. Bake at 350° for 8 minutes. Enjoy!”

I wish I could post a pic. These were so easy to make, OMG! And…they were sooooo gooood. I ate 4 of them after 10pm and don’t feel too bad about it either. My daughter, who HATES homemade cookies, said “Oh I’ll eat these…these good Ma!” This is definitely my quick-fix-in-a-jif cookie.
Allie says
That seems to be the drawback of these comment boxes Chrissy, you can’t post pictures! I’d love to see your cookies. i’m so glad you enjoyed them and your daughter too. SCORE!!! We often double this recipe, end even so, with four boys in the house, they don’t last long. I like to think they are a smidge healthier with the oatmeal. Thanks for dropping by!

I’m bringing a meal to friend whose shoulder was out of socket for 12 hours🤨 before agreeing to let her husband take her to ER—now, she doesn’t want too many meals around, as they’ll go uneaten/wasted—so a freezer-ready batch of chili and a jar of these ready to bake dry ingredients will be “the bomb!” Wait, is that 60’s???
Susie Mandel says
Retro is cool, Susan 😉

Wow, makes making cookies so easy! Thank you for such a yummy recipe! My husband has eaten about 10 and I have eaten 4…… very good. Love that oatmeal is in them. Mixed pecans and walnuts because I did not have enough of either. This will be my go to recipe for oatmeal chocochip cookies. Only took about 2 1/4 hours and double the recipe, made about 90 cookies. Thank you very much! 😋😋😋

Hi Paddy – this makes me so happy and I love this recipe so much too. I made them for my son Charlie’s Destination Imagination club after school this past week. Big hit. Glad you like them too. And can I just say…. I LOVE YOUR NAME!!! I’m so curious what it’s short for. With Paddington2 out in the movies now, of course I’m wondering…. I’ve always loved Paddington bear. Anyway, so glad you like the cookies Paddy! Thanks for dropping by.

These biscuits look lovely but I’m on slimming World diet. Can you tell me how many calories each biscuit is? I would love to bake these. They look so delicious.
Allie says
Hi Irene – I plugged in all the ingredients into a recipe nutrition analyzer online – and it tells me that each cookie is 115 calories, if you use this recipe to make two dozen cookies. It’s kind of a neat tool, you can check it out here: http://caloriecount.about.com/cc/recipe_analysis.php Have a great day and hope you get to try these cookies!
